Web3 Glossary
Your comprehensive guide to blockchain, DeFi, NFT, and reputation terminology
What terms should I learn first?
Start with: Wallet Address, On-Chain Activity, Reputation Score, Soulbound NFT, and Smart Contract. These fundamentals will help you understand how Hunger4Crypto works.
This glossary covers essential terms across blockchain basics, DeFi protocols, NFTs, and our reputation system. All definitions are beginner-friendly with related terms for deeper exploration.
What is a blockchain?
A blockchain is a shared, tamper-proof public ledger that records every transaction across a decentralized network. Once written, data cannot be changed - making it permanently verifiable.
What is DeFi?
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) is financial services - lending, borrowing, trading - built on smart contracts without banks. Anyone with a crypto wallet can access DeFi 24/7.
What is staking?
Staking means locking cryptocurrency to support a blockchain network's security or operations, earning rewards in return. It's similar to earning interest but on-chain and without a bank.
What is a DAO?
A Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) is a community-governed entity where decisions are made by token holders voting on-chain. No traditional executives - governance is transparent and automated.
B
Badge
REPUTATIONDigital achievement represented as a Soulbound NFT. Earned through specific activities (Early Adopter, DeFi Master, Community Leader) and permanently tied to your wallet.
C
Cross-Chain
BLOCKCHAINThe ability to operate across multiple blockchain networks. Hunger4Crypto aggregates reputation from Ethereum, Solana, and Algorand for a unified, portable score.
D
DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization)
BLOCKCHAINCommunity-governed organization where decisions are made through token-based voting rather than centralized leadership. Members with higher reputation often have increased influence.
DeFi (Decentralized Finance)
DEFIFinancial services built on blockchain technology without traditional intermediaries. Includes lending, borrowing, trading, and yield farming protocols that operate through smart contracts.
G
Gas Fees
BLOCKCHAINTransaction costs paid to blockchain validators for processing operations. Varies by network congestion and complexity of the transaction.
Governance
BLOCKCHAINThe process by which community members vote on protocol changes, treasury allocations, and platform decisions. Higher reputation often grants increased voting power.
L
Liquidity Provider (LP)
DEFIUsers who deposit token pairs into decentralized exchanges to enable trading. LPs earn fees from trades and often receive LP tokens representing their share of the pool.
M
Multi-Chain Reputation
REPUTATIONA unified reputation score calculated across multiple blockchain ecosystems (Ethereum, Solana, Algorand). Aggregates on-chain activity, social engagement, and community participation from all connected chains.
N
NFT (Non-Fungible Token)
NFTUnique digital assets on a blockchain, often representing art, collectibles, or credentials. Unlike fungible tokens (like ETH), each NFT has distinct properties and value.
O
On-Chain Activity
BLOCKCHAINActions recorded directly on a blockchain, including token transfers, smart contract interactions, NFT mints, DeFi transactions, and governance votes. Permanently verifiable and contributes to reputation scoring.
R
Reputation Score
REPUTATIONA numerical value representing a user's credibility and engagement across the platform. Calculated from on-chain activities (DeFi, NFTs, governance), social engagement (messages, events), and quality multipliers (tenure, consistency).
S
Smart Contract
BLOCKCHAINSelf-executing code deployed on a blockchain that automatically enforces agreements when predefined conditions are met. Powers DeFi protocols, NFT minting, and token-gated access.
Soulbound NFT (SBT)
NFTA non-transferable digital token permanently tied to a wallet address. Unlike regular NFTs, SBTs cannot be sold or transferred, making them ideal for representing achievements, credentials, and reputation that must be earned, not bought.
Staking
DEFILocking cryptocurrency to support network operations or earn rewards. Staked tokens contribute to reputation score and may unlock additional platform benefits.
T
Tier System
REPUTATIONHierarchical ranking system (Shrimp → Dolphin → Shark → Whale → Titan) based on reputation score. Higher tiers unlock better rewards, exclusive access, and greater governance power.
Token-Gated Content
REPUTATIONDigital content or features accessible only to users meeting specific token ownership or reputation criteria. Used to reward engaged community members with exclusive access to channels, events, or resources.
W
Wallet Address
BLOCKCHAINA unique identifier (public key) for receiving and sending cryptocurrency. Acts as your identity in Web3, with all on-chain activity tied to your addresses across different chains.
Y
Yield Farming
DEFIStrategy of depositing cryptocurrency into DeFi protocols to earn rewards, typically in the form of additional tokens. Contributes to reputation score through on-chain activity.
